Meet Katie Tacchino, Owner, Clinical Director & Psychotherapist of Oak Counseling & Consulting, a trauma-informed therapy practice in West Chester, PA. Katie and her team offer compassionate care for children, adults, families, and professionals. Their services include individual therapy, child and adolescent counseling, couples work, parent coaching, executive coaching, group therapy, and psychological assessments. They create a space where clients can slow down, feel understood, and move toward meaningful, lasting growth, with both in-person and telehealth options available.

Finding a Calling

Katie’s path into therapy was unexpected. As a psychology major at Saint Joseph’s University, she initially envisioned a career in business and industrial psychology. Therapy was not part of the plan until an internship at a domestic violence agency revealed a profound calling. “Turns out I loved it. I loved the therapy aspect of it.”

This experience shaped her early career for nearly eight years before she stepped away to focus on raising her children. When the timing felt right, Katie launched Oak Counseling & Consulting, building a practice grounded in purpose, intentionality, and compassionate care.

Leading with Purpose and Authenticity

Owning a business, even in a female-led field like therapy, comes with challenges. Katie has found that the greatest obstacles are often internal—navigating self-doubt while maintaining focus and presence. She has learned to lead intentionally, creating a practice that reflects her values and allows her clients and team to thrive.

Inspiration Close to Home

Mentors and colleagues have guided Katie throughout her career, but her most significant inspiration comes from her daughter, Mae. Watching Mae perform in school plays and step onto the stage with confidence has taught Katie about courage, authenticity, and the power of self-belief.

“Mae is my role model. I honestly don’t know how she gets up in front of people, remembers exactly what she wants to say, and delivers it with so much confidence and love.”

Katie’s Advice for Aspiring Women Leaders

For women considering entrepreneurship, Katie offers a simple but powerful message: “Do it. Go for it. It's so empowering. It's amazing.” She emphasizes that the learning process is part of growth and encourages women to embrace uncertainty, seek support when needed, and trust their passion.

Katie’s journey illustrates how openness, authenticity, and intentionality can transform unexpected opportunities into a meaningful professional calling. Her story serves as a reminder that leadership is built on courage, presence, and the commitment to move forward with purpose.
