Meet Alicia: The Heart Behind the Hustle at Appetites on Main

ree

We’re excited to spotlight Alicia, Assistant General Manager at Appetites on Main, and share her journey in hospitality, insights on succeeding in restaurant leadership, and advice for women aspiring to rise in the industry!

A Multi-Hat Role: Alicia’s Impact at Appetites

As Assistant General Manager, Alicia wears many hats — and she wears them well.

“I oversee both front-of-house and back-of-house staff,” she says. “I handle daily and monthly operations, manage inventory, coordinate with our reps, and stay current with industry trends. I even do the shopping! I try to keep us modern, efficient, and ahead of the game.”

Her Journey: From Dive Bar to Leadership

Alicia’s career in hospitality started just shy of ten years ago — with little experience and a lot of passion.

“I got my start bartending at a local dive bar. I barely knew anything, but the owner gave me a shot and taught me everything. I fell in love with the craft of bartending, and from there, I knew I wanted to grow. I started managing, and one opportunity led to the next. That path eventually brought me here to Appetites on Main.”

The Experience of Being a Woman in Hospitality

Working as a woman in the restaurant business has come with its fair share of challenges — but also growth.

“There are definitely ups and downs. Sometimes you have to hold your ground more firmly than your male counterparts. But overall, it’s been a rewarding experience. I’ve gained confidence — not just personally, but professionally. I’ve grown into someone I’m proud to be.”

On Respect and Proving Herself

Earning respect has been one of the biggest challenges Alicia has faced — but also one of the most rewarding.

“Respect is hard-earned in any leadership role, but especially as a woman. You have to stand your ground and be confident in your work. It’s about proving that you deserve your seat at the table. Once that happens, everything starts to fall into place.”

The Power of Mentorship

Alicia credits many of her career milestones to the guidance she’s received along the way.

“I’ve taken away something from every place I’ve worked. Whether it was advice, direction, or mentorship — it all shaped who I am. At Appetites, I’ve worked with people who’ve been here for years, even former managers, who taught me the culture and values of this place. But my biggest coach? That’s my boss. He’s helped guide me the most.”

Advice for Women in Hospitality

When asked what advice she would give to other women pursuing leadership roles in the restaurant industry, Alicia shared this insight:

“Go for it — but first, grow some thick skin. You’re going to need it. Be open to coaching and criticism, and don’t ever feel like you have to change who you are to manage. You can lead with authenticity. Just get out on the floor and run it.”

Alicia’s story is one of resilience, grit, and constant growth — a perfect reflection of what makes Appetites on Main standout in the hospitality world. Her leadership, drive, and authenticity continue to shape the culture and elevate the experience for the team and guests.
